Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Carol Lin, a CNN talking (air)head (you will see why in a moment), was reporting on the Riots in France.  She Reported:

LIN: Hard to say because it's been 11 days since two African- American teenagers were killed, electrocuted during a police chase, which prompted all of this.

Now I have heard they were muslims, and I have heard they were from Africa.  They may have even been black (I have not heard if they were black or brown), but this talking airhead is so conditioned to calling blacks "African-Americans" that she cant even see the stupidity of her statement!

They may be anyone one of many things, but American they are not!

When words lose their meaning, stupid mistakes like this are bound to happen!  And the REALLY stupid part of that episode?  Her co-anchor airhead did not catch it!

So much for intelligence in reporting news.

"So poor and so Black..."
on Nov 10, 2005
That's kind of funny.

Here in Texas political correctness was defeated by vote. A town near Fort Worth is called White Settlement. The mayor decided this is keeping people from investing and building in the town and wanted to change the name to West Settlement. It was defeated in the election and will remain White Settlement.

Yea, I heard about that.  A retailer I use to work for (since deceased) had a store there.  So it was of some interest to me.

Nice post. Not sure if I would agree it is necessarily Political Correctness going stupid though. It's an mistake of America-centricity, and that's very definitely NOT PC!

Can we agree that it was stupid?

Carol Lin should report about how French-American President Chirac should do more to protest the French-American people of his country. ;~D

You gotta remember most anchors don't write their own stuff.

The reporters write just about everything. So the anchors come in and read it over right before going on, seriously, and if they see a tongue twister or something they will change it, but mostly they leave it as is.

Sometimes as an anchor you get things off the AP and write up something on your own, just depends on the news director and how much is happening.

My point is, once they start just chatting, you'll find most are ignornant of world events and what's more ignorant about what they JUST READ off the teleprompter! HAHHA

And have mercy, if they actually start ad libbing, buwhahahaha, you''re gonna hear some stupid remarks!

If this was scripted, that says a lot about CNN as they do have editors!  I would hope for CNN's sake it was ad lib.

on Nov 10, 2005
Yeah you can usually tell when its not scripted because they aren't reading it off the teleprompter. When anchors are "talking back and forth" that is all ad lib, unless of course the news director says, "after this story you may want to make a personal comment condemning this or agreeing with that." HAHA. Then its ad libbed, but SCRIPTED at the same time.

Thankfully, I never worked for a news station that did that.

Chances are she saw "African" and thought that it must have meant "African-American". So she added it herself on the fly.
