In what can only be described as the height of double speak and racism, Democrat black leaders say that pulling out the racism (note: not race) card is OK, if you do not believe as they do:

Black Democratic leaders in Maryland say that racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele in his bid for the U.S. Senate are fair because he is a conservative Republican.

Does anyone other than me see this as the same excuse that the David Dukes give? That somehow, now a distinguished politician is being smeared because of his race, and other blacks are cheering it?

What is the difference between what they are saying and what the Aryan Nation says? Except the color of their skin? (and that is apparently up to debate as well).

I recently wrote an article that said that only liberals are allowed to be bigots and racists. And along comes the Maryland Democrats to not only support my contention, but to add an exclamation point to it!

How many republicans have participated in the following:

Such attacks against the first black man to win a statewide election in Maryland include pelting him with Oreo cookies during a campaign appearance, calling him an "Uncle Tom" and depicting him as a black-faced minstrel on a liberal Web log.

We had a debate a while back on JU about who the party for civil rights was and who was stonewalling and filibustering against it. It was the democrats that were the bigots 40 years ago, but as some liberals argued, all those bigots were supposed to have moved over to the republican party. They forgot Sheets Byrd of course.

Well, this simple little article has laid bare the lies. The bigots did not move over to the Republicans. They are still nestled snug in their bugs over in the democrat party!

What a bunch of hypocritical, bigoted fools! Party of Inclusion? Only if you kowtow to the new Masters, the liberal elite.

No, Maryland. Steele is not an Uncle Tom. You are just looking in a mirror when you say that.

Just in case people don't read on to the 2nd page of the article. I'm not justifying throwing Oreo's at anyone, but I really doubt it would have ever gottent his ugly if it weren't for this...

Still, Mfume spokesman Joseph P. Trippi said Mr. Steele opens himself to such criticism by defending Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. for holding a Republican fundraiser in July at the all-white Elkridge Club in Baltimore.

"The facts are the facts. Ehrlich went to that country club, and Steele said it didn't bother him," Mr. Trippi said. "I think that says something ... and should be part of this debate."

I'm white, so I don't really care...but most black people would find it pretty offensive that he defended the Governor. Offensive enough to throw Oreo's?? That's not for me to say.

I've got a silly question. How do you get "he defended the Governor" out of "... and Steele said it didn't bother him"?

There's a big difference between defending someone, and someone's actions not bothering you.

I'm not bothered over someone cussing out the neighbour's dog because he's been barking all night. Doesn't mean that I defend the jerk that was doing the yelling.

I've read a few articles, blogs from black people and Apparently their point is that as one of the highest profile black politicians, he has an obligation to be bothered by stuff like the Governor attending a fund raiser at an all white club.

It should also be noted that there is some debate over whether anyone actually ever threw oreos at him. It looks like the story about the oreos has changed considerably since the incident allegedly happened.

The message is clear from the so-called "Black" leadership in this country, if you dare leave the liberal plantation, you're not a "real" Black person anymore.

I guess when hate and racial division is all they have, they better play it to the hilt.

Apparently to the racist hypocrits, Martin Luther Kind's dream should have been to see a day when a only Black people cold judge a man by the color of his skin... but only if the man doesn't "think" right.

Just because he has the same skin tone as others, he's supposed to spout (and agree with) the racist policies that they proclaim? That's just like saying I have to agree with (and publicly proclaim) the same policies as the Aryan Nation or the KKK, just because my skin tone happens to match theirs (and as an man of Eastern European descent, my skin tone is considerably darker than most of those two groups would like.

Surely, he's not bothered, because he (as a person) has come to realize that somethings aren't worth getting all hot and bothered over? Maybe, he just doesn't care. Then again, if he doesn't care/agree, he can't really be black, now can he? 'cause (according to the comments above) you can't be black and not agree (and thusly, get all righteously torqued off at the pissant little things that don't really matter in the grand scheme o' things) with every little (contradictory) thing that The Powers That Be declare.

Yeah, your logic makes perfect sense. It's racist to be opposed to clubs that exclude non-whites.

Note the Times's shaky grasp of facts - Steele didn't debate Townsend. Ehrlich did.

That is the logic of the left for you! I have already been accused of advocating genocide by commenting on a blog where the author was commenting on the French riots. Go figure.
