Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

An elementary school in Massachusetts has decided to ban Holloween because "some" parents said it offended their religious beliefs.

What beliefs?  How can a pretend day offend religious beliefs in Mass?  This is the state that just legalized gay marriage.  I would like to know what religion approves of gay marriages, and not a costume pretend day?

Jewhovah Witnesses?  I think not!

This is not only stupid, but dangerous!  Next, these scrouges (sorry wrong holliday) are going to object to the Winter break!  Why?  Because taking Christ out of Christmas offends their religious beliefs!

When are these pencil neck school administrators going to understand you cannot cave to every demand when it comes to all religions?  Is not this caving the very opposite of the separation of Church and state one that got Christmas banned in schools?  Now those crackpots are using their religion to dictate to all the students at the school!

And the Principal went along with it!  And teachers wonder why many people dont hold their profession in high regard?  When you get Principals, former teachers who 'got ahead' making stupid decisions like that, what else are we to think?

The last intelligent thought that principal had was the one where he decided to become a teacher.  I wonder if he is blonde?

Today I had to see my doctor, and holy cow, the three receptionists were in costume!

Imagine my shock, and delight **********VBS*******.....so was the doctor......
his costume sure enhanced his good looks! He wore a white puffy shirt, complete with
ruffled cuffs, a black velvet vest, over which he had donned a black cape and he had a white
satin eye mask.......and his cologne almost made me swoon!
.
NO KIDDING!

Not all the doctors wore costumes, however it sure lightened up the atmosphere in there!

Ban Halloween? NEVER!!

If you wore a sign that said "MUGGERS WELCOME!" and a mugger came up and asked you for your money and you handed it over with a chuckle and the muggers gave you a big grin and a sincere thank you, then it might be the same thing.

I never thought of it that way!  I need to get my sign for the next time.

Our Church we had a fall carnival and the kids dressed as Princess, Buzzlightyear, Zombs, Bassball players, Army man with a gun and more ... Everyone had a blast!

The Schools in our area usually do the same.  But we still get our share of trick or treaters too.

The receptionist at my Wife's place of work dressed up as the Witch from Snow White!  She was good (this is a law office BTW), and I did not even recognize her!  It may not be strictly professional, but one day a year is not going to kill a business and as youpoint out, it lightens up the atmosphere!

People need special events to look forward too!  Over half the fun of Halloween for the kids is deciding what they are going to be, picking out their pumpkins, decorating and all of the prep and anticipation.  What a sad, empty life we would have if we didn't have these special things to look forward too.

Sometimes the only reason for a holiday is for a party.  I think Holloween is just such a holiday.  You dont have to Party!  But let those who do want to do it.  There is nothing religious about it.

I have a curious question, seeing as how often we are seeing more and more of our holidays disappear from our schools and even from places like malls and work, are the ones being offended by these holidays the only ones complaining? Where are the parents who like holloween and xmas? Why are they not fighting to keep these celebrations in school like it always has been? Why are the offended the only ones getting their way? I know that's more than one question but they are all connected.

It's sad that parents who don't mind or like holidays celebrated in schools and such would rather sit back and allow the schools to eliminate them and not fight for their childs right to celebrate those holidays.

The Original argument was separation of Church and State, so Easter and Christmas got the boot.  However, the lunacy of this one, and I place all the blame on the Principal, is it is the exact opposite!  The Church is dictating to the state!

Personally, my family does not celebrate Halloween. Since on Halloween, the entire school day at our elementary school is the celebration of the holiday (classroom parties in the morning, costume parades in the afternoon), I elect to keep my children home. The staff at the school understand and accept my decision (realizing the kids aren't missing any work because of their absence). One teacher this year even went so far as to ask me if it would be ok if she read a story to the class about ghosts and my son heard it. I told her it was fine. I realize that I can't completely shelter my kids from this, nor would I want to... but when it comes to the celebration of the day, we choose differently for ourselves. It's simple, really. Our decision doesn't affect anyone else (except the miscellaneous children who might otherwise come to the house for trick-or-treating and find it empty - then again, most of our friends don't celebrate either, so not a big deal). It's a personal choice, and not one I feel I have to push on anyone else. We are all free to choose for ourselves how we will live. I won't impose my beliefs on others, but I will act in my children's best interests. In this case, I choose to remove them from the situation. I don't go ranting and griping about what the school is doing because I realize that it's much simpler to alter MY patterns than to try to change an entire district... and more just.

YOu are what makes America great!  Thank you!  I will always respect your beliefs because you respect others.  No one can ask for more, and no one ever should.

Well Done dear lady.  Well Done.

HC, you almost made me cry. I agree with Dr. Guy. If only more people thought like you this would definitely make life easier.

Unfortunately HC is of a rare species. Someone who has common sense. If only more people had it.

You are not too common yourself with your quick wit!
