Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.
And mean what you say
Published on December 18, 2004 By Dr Guy In Current Events

I wrote an article about 2 months ago trying to stem the tide of those that would take what I say, and distort it.  When I write, I mean what I say.  However, on occasion, I have had to refine what I said due to the fact that anyone can misspeak and some have called me on that.  For that I am thankful I can clarify what I said.

However, it goes on.  My latest article has people reading into what they want to see, instead of what I say.  But I have come to expect that.

But this is not about my word and what I mean to say or not mean to say.  This is about keeping your word.  Several have trashed JU and stormed off in a huff. To them I say good riddance.  But then they slink back under the cover of their membership and continue to not only snipe and spit, but are now posting new articles.  I guess Blogspot is not what it cracked up to be.

However in their petulance to leave, they did say some very nasty things to many of the JU community.  has anyone received a 'sorry' yet? I dont think so.

Everyone admires a person of principal, no matter if they agree with them or not.  No one admires a quitter, whether you agree with them or not.

So stop quitting and being a loser!  Stick around and try learning and debating.

Or not, your chose, quitter.

Because you are the great moderate. And when you speak, both conservatives and liberals listen as you speak from wisdom! You have always been nice. I said that because I value your wisdom, not because you have ever been mean.

That's the nicest thing anyone on JU ever said to me....you have no idea how much that is appreciated.

Heather, I agree, ego and arrogance are blinding. I suppose it's impossible to apologize when you can't even see that you might have a reason to. (And Ben Franklin was one of the most fascinating men to ever have lived, imho.)

maturity and pride. A mature person can, but sometimes pride stops them. A realy mature person knows that pride is transitory, and knowledge is paramount. I lost my pride long ago, but not before I got maturity. I know I am wrong and I admit it. And my pride no longer suffers.

Dr. Guy, I would consider what you're referring to as "pride" the same thing as what Heather refers to as "ego." And I'm not mincing words (because I know you say what you mean), but I wholely agree that it is something that comes with maturity. I do feel proud when I can admit that I've made a mistake; that makes me better able to live with myself. I also feel some sort of pride in simply conceding, even when I might still believe inside that I'm right. I guess I'm proud that I'm mature enough?

Good answers. I had to actually think back and remember that I wasn't always so eager to apologize, that I've gotten this way as I've gotten older.

ps, didn't mean to hijack.

First, you did not hijack.  Second, yes, it is kind of the same.  And can be the same, and in this case, I think it is. (ego and Pride).

And you are a student?  I may be old, but you seem to have a lot of wisdom.  I am going to have to read more of your blogs.

Thank you for teaching an old man!

Am I a student??? Kind of a loaded question for me; I am a perpetual student! I got my BA when in my thirties and begin my MA program in just a couple of weeks.

You old? Dude, I'm 41!!! Probably the one of the most immature 41's you'll ever meet, I think, but there is satisfaction in realizing that I have evolved (am evolving); doubly nice for someone to attribute "wisdom" to me on some level. You were right, Dr. Guy, I AM a student, but I'm also old (ish).

lol Please do read more of my blogs - but if it's wisdom you're looking for, I think you'll be very disappointed!

Not if you write in them the way you have on this thread.  And stay young at heart! I am most of the time, until my kids get on me about dinosaurs and such!
