Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Decrease?  OMG!  Grab the logs for the fire!  Grab extra blankets!  Armegeddon is upon us!

Well, we can almost here Al Gorette yelling this as the new religion of Global Cooling takes up where the old tired religion of Global Warming dies a noisy, if deserved death.  But of course this is not really anything to worry about as the earth has been doing this for billions (that is of years.  Yet we are going to have to worry about freezing to death now?  Better stoke up that pollution, or we are going to DIE!

In all fairness to the headline, the "scientist" (and that term is used freely) are only predicting that 2008 will be colder than the previous years.  Which is good news for me!  I don't relish spending a week in the desert southwest when temperatures hit 120 - 110 is ok.

But I love this quote from the article:

"When you look at climate change you should not look at any particular year," he [Michel Jarraud] told the BBC. "You should look at trends over a pretty long period and the trend of temperature globally is still very much indicative of warming."

Look at trends?  These Chicken Littles have been looking at maybe 150 years of data (and some determined to be flawed) and trying to extrapolate something that has been going on for billions of years?  What a bunch of mealy mouthed wanna bees (hence the loose term of scientists)!  The data suggests that the earth has NOT been warming for the last 10 years, or 7% of the available data.

And he says to "look over the long period"?  That is laughable.  But expected. Most of the "experts" are more concerned with being at the leading edge of the new religion than adhering to scientific principal.

And each time they try to weasel out, or double talk a new explanation of why the facts are proving them wrong, they just appear to be more and more a bunch of snake oil salesmen instead of scientists.

No truth is more inconvenient than a lie.

Very true.

His latest campaign, contrary to the articles contention, is a sign of desperation. To keep his name in the lime light. Fame is a powerful narcotic, and gore is hooked on it like a cheap hooker on heroine.

Since when has the UN been right about anything?  The few times they have, they found a way to screw it up.

This is no surprise to those who refused to buy into the whole panic the world in the name of research grants mentality. The planet's climate system is self-checking and self-adjusting. Whenever one factor goes out of balance something else changes to correct it. Even the massive asteroid strike that supposedly killed off the dinosaurs and most of the life on the planet was eventually corrected by the planet's own ecosystems so it's kind of foolish to believe that mere Man can affect the climate in any real substantial way short of creating a similar effect with lots of nukes.

Global seasons come and go both on an annual basis and a geologic basis. Ice ages will come and go followed by periods of warming and then cooling. Not much different than the seasons we see every single year.

We know for a fact that the climate has been both much warmer and much colder in past eons. To get overly frightened by something we already know has happened in the past and will happen again in the future is absurd.

That said, I think the truth is a good enough reason to stop trashing the planet, we don't need fairy tales to frighten us into doing it.

The can spell their name most of the time? But for a buck or 2, they will mess that up as well.

Well said.
