Arthur C.Clarke died yesterday.  I have been so busy I misssed his passing, but I will long mourn it.  He was one of the great classic Science Fiction Writers, few reached his stature.

For the past many years, he has lived in Sri Lanka, but was actually a citizen of Her majesty.  He will best be remembered as the Author of 2001: A Space Odyssey, but that was far from his greatest work.  Along with Isaac Asimov, Theodore Sturgeon, and to a lesser extent Ray Bradbuy, he was truly among the greatest science fiction writers of all time.  It is sad that he will write no more for us.

His greatest work however, and the greatest Science Fiction Book ever is Childhood's end.  Some argue that Rendevous with Rama was his greatest.  And of cocurse there will always be debate.

One of the last of the classic sci-fi writers, I hold him up there with Isaac Asimov as the greatest of all time.

I am really going to miss him.  Along with all the others that have now gone on.

I wish you well Mr, Clarke, and hope you find happiness and joy with the others who provided so much hope and joy with their writing about a future that comes true every day.

Rest in Peace.

And has Bruce Campbell.

What movie does not have him.

Oh Lord! That makes two. The original was amazing in my opinion, truly insurmountable.hey have never remade the Wizard of Oz, or Gone with the WInd (The Wiz does not count, it was ok, but taken on a different tangent). WHy? WHo would watch them?I guess some will watch this remake. But no one who saw it when it was still new and novell. At least not and like it much.

Those who either are seeing if they are on par with the classics, or those who have no idea the value and amazingness that the classics have. The classics are the history, and future of film. (My cinem/film/filmmaking side coming out, lol. I just love movies.)

All the crappy ones.

hey have never remade the Wizard of Oz

Sure they did, it was that weird thing on Sci-Fi called 'Tin Man'.

or Gone with the WInd

That 'Scarlett' movie was basically rehashing it, even though it was supposedly a 'sequel'.

Re-makes is what Hollywood excels at. Too bad the remake usually sucks.

But most young kids today will only see the new one, and think it is neato (or it will bomb like POTA). You are right. My favorite all time movies were all made before 1970. Some even before I was born. (yea, they had movies back then. )

I really wanted to see that one. I guess you could call it a remake (I saw part 1). But that is how to remake something - different name, and different angle, so it can stand of fail on its own.

Your last line sums up Scarlett pretty well. It was supposed to be a sequel. SOmetimes it works (Godfather II), most of the time it does not.

I write a lot of sci fi too... and remember once reading that after he wrote Stranger In A Stange Land, people contacted him asking if he was starting a religion. His response was someting like, Hell NO.

I began doing some religious writing of my own, a book I am writing on line, about Christ waking up now, and I use a lot of autobiographical trappings in the book... and sure enough, I got an email telling me two jehova witness sects were sure I was Jesus. At the time I had very long hair... and a beard and a gaunt look. I remembered what Heinlein said and told them All Glory To God, not to me. I believe people need to dream, and H. gave me many a wondrous days of dreaming.

I have seen religions founded on flimsier excuses.

True, very true, and I find that extremely sad. Most younglings think that today's movies are the best there are (while there are some very good ones), the classics are the benchmark. The classics are what defined what is the best. I mean, argh!

I honestly feel that Godfather was the only decent sequal made then. I mean they've messed up other good originals with sequals. *shudders* Just look at 'em, horrendous.

Was okay, like the first better.

Eh, not that great i think.

A funny movie, is Bruce Campbell's Army of Darkness. Not a totally amazing film, but still freaking great.

Are they really sequels (I chose these 2 only), or really just parts of one movie? I know Lord of the Rings is just another part of a trilogy, and the same can be said for The EMpire Strikes back. NOw if you are going to compare the first 3 (release wise) Star wars with the last 3, most agree - the first 3 shine, and the last 3 stink.

Kill Bill, Vol.2.

I cry foul. The movie was to be released as a single, but was too long, so they split it.

Your taste sucks.

It, in fact, sucks balls.

Please don't go into film, because based on your taste, anything you create will be atrocious.
