Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.
At least on the right side of the River this time

One of my tabbies, Sampson, has been sneezing for the last couple of days.  Other than that, he does not seem the worse for wear (well his puppy dog watery eyes are not normal).  But this morning at 6am my wife decided that there was something seriously wrong with him.  So she called the 7x24 Vet place and off we went as the sun was rising (it really did not rise today as it was rainy).

Sampson is one of the 3 pound rescue siblings my wife rescued and I adopted (when we were still comuting between 2 houses).  So far his sisters do not seem to have caught any of this and I dont think it is really communicable.  But we went.  My first visit to this place since I put my beloved Tsar down almost 15 years ago.

The place had not changed.  Indeed, for a metro area of about 800,000 2 legged animals, it is the only 7x24 365 vet place, so I dont guess they want for business.  Still it was hard being there.  The memories had not dimmed with age.

The vet said he was not running a temperature, and indeed seems to be ok except for the occassional sneeze.  But to be on the safe side, she put him on 2 weeks of anti-biotics, and isolation.  That is going to be the worst thing for him.  Being isolated from all the other cats - his sisters and brothers.  Of all the cats, he is the one that does not have any enemies among his siblings.  He never fights with them, and loves to play with his littlest sister - Sally (famed for Sally says).

And of course he lets his sisters boss him around.  You might say he is ........ pussy whipped! (sorry for that poor pun).

The pills are not going to be the problem.  And unlike Scotty (where his isolation made him a nicer cat), Sampson is going to hate being alone for 2 weeks.  I feel sorry for him.  But I hope the time passes quickly and he does not develope bad habits (like thinking he now has a couple of butlers at his beck and call).

Oh, there is one other difference between him and scotty too.  When the Vet took his temperature - he did not try to bite her hand off!  He really is a pussy cat!  And why most people love cats.  You cant help but love ones that love you back!

Sorry to hear about Sampson, Doc. Hope he is on the mend and feeling better soon.

I am really beginning to think it was just some developed allergies.  We had a monsoon yesterday, and that cleared the air.  He is breathing through his nose again (still a few sneezes), and has only been on the AB for a day.  And does not like being confined (he is a cry baby).

Sorry to hear about your kitty Doc. I know how that can be. I almost lost mine a year and a half ago to some liver problem, and she's good as gold today....cost me a ton but now is worth it.

But have a question for you. I've always had female cats. Do the male cats spray around the house? I've always been afraid of getting a boy cat cuz that just grosses me out.

Your cat sounds like a very good tempered cat. My cat does not do well with other cats but then she's always been the center of our world since her sibling died in their first year together.

I can't even imagine giving a cat a pill. We had to give her some goo last year via a syringe and it was alot of work.

Some do. SOme dont. No rhyme or reason it seems either. Of the 4 males, 2 do, and 2 do not. (all are neutered).

ok, next question. How do you know who is doing it? Is it what you've witnessed? How can you be sure the other two are not doing it?

Do they go outside at all or are they indoor cats only? I was wondering if that would make a difference?

Process of elimination on how and who (who was inside when it happened and where). And no, I have not actually witnessed it. All are indoor and outdoor cats, but I dont think that makes a difference.

my wife says if you neuter the males young enough, they don't spray - don't know how much truth there is to this - we did luck out with our male.

Thanks Doc for answering all my questions. I was just curious. We did have a male cat for a short period of time but it was neutered early and then it was killed (a fisher) before we had him too long. He didn't do any spraying but he did spend alot of time outdoors....hense the reason we don't have him anymore. Other than that we've only had female cats.

Well, one of the sprayers was neutered at 6 months. The other I am not sure, but suspect about the same age as my wife had him from the time he was a kitten as well.

No Problem. Before we got the "babies", my wife only had male cats. But 2 of the 3 "babies" are female and then of course she got Sally From Oklahoma City, so now 4 boys and 3 girls.
