Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Well, I have been back almost a week now, and other than some humorous articles, I have not had time to post anything. Why?  Is it because I am abandoning JU?  Is it because I am so mellow from 75-80 degree temps (and smirking as my in-laws shivered in the 'cold')?  Is it because I am bereft of ideas?

Well, the latter might be true.  But the real reason is those damn clowns in DC!  "Oh Let's save some money and change DST!".  Yea right!  My mother always use to say that DST was like the indian who cut off one end of his blanket and sewed it to the other end to make it longer.  So it is with government.

They are going to "save millions" by changing DST by a couple of weeks?  No, they just placed another tax on consumers.

WHATTTTT!!! You say? That is no tax!  My kids can now go to school in the dark earlier in the year, but get to play video games later in the day by sunlight!  That is no tax!

To that I say, follow the money.  My staff and I, along with the staff of 3 other departments just spent a week 50+ manhours times 35 people times pay (time and a half for some) fixing all the computer systems for the New DST times.  And yes, you are going to pay for that.  In my case, since I work for a state, that means more taxes (just ask "Never seen a tax I did not like Kaine").  The state is not going to swallow that cost!  Are you kidding?

And our efforts are being duplicated all over the private sector as well.  Do you think that Wal-Mart is going to eat those costs?  Have you been chasing that white rabbit again Alice?

Unlike the Y2k scare (which was well prepared for and the biggest hoax in modern history), this one was not inevitable, nor necessary.  But it was another case of clowns in DC that had too much time on their hands, and not enough brains.

The job is not yet done.  But about 95% of the way there.  We will be ready.  But the cost is not cheap, and I doubt worth the effort.  But then Politicians never think about the cost of their stupidity.  just that it makes for a good 30 second sound bite.

I still wish that we'd just move the clock 1/2 hour one time and be done. Split the difference between Daylight Savings and Standard time and things will be just fine and no one would ever need to change their clocks again.
Fat chance of it actually happening though.

I have heard they were thinking of going to DST year round. That would be fine. Just pick a time and stick to it!

Just pick a time and stick to it!

Amen to that one!!!!

I'm tired of the change too. Every other country had done it, why can't we?
