Some of us have been reading about how bad the fires are down in Georgia and Florida.  And California.  ut not being there, it often takes on a surrealism that we dont associate with.  Until something hits home.

Here is a letter from my Aunt.  Apparently it is a lot worse than we have been hearing (and why is the MSM JUST talking about Catalina???)

The smoke is really bad here in Tarpon Springs.  Visibility is less than 1/4 mile.  They have closed the courthou...

Yes, there is a warrant out for a kissing bandit!  AKA Richard Gere!  For kissing Shilpa Shetty on Indian TV!  I had heard that India was a very conservative society, and that their movies (Bollywood - the largest producer of Movies in the world) was very strict on its "sex" scenes, but did not realize that a peck on the cheek would warrant a crime!

But apparently it does.  And I guess Mr. Gere is Persona non-Grata now in the triangle land. http://news.aol.com/topnews/arti...

By now, we have all heard about the senseless tragedy that occurred at Va. Tech (or VPISU if you want the official name).  For most of us here on JU, it was something that the 24 hour news services had to play over and over and over again, even when there was nothing new to report.  That is not new (or news) as we have come to expect it, and most at JU could escape it by simply turning off the 24 hour News Channels.

Not so in the Old Dominion, where we are subject to that coverage n...

The NY Times seems to have suffered an epiphany of sorts.  Long have they derided any calls to change Social Security, they now are basically taking up the banner of others when they report:

By the same token, the ratio of workers to retired people will decline from about six to one now to about two to one by 2040.

Breaking a lifelong promise and abruptly extending the retirement age would create another large class of malcontents. As a result, the government has been unable to reach ...

This weekend I had the enormous joy of doing my taxes.  I still lack one form, but have a good handle on the amount on it.  Still, there was not a lot of surprises this year on my taxes.  Until I got to the end.  Remember that "tax Credit" that we got for our children (only under 16)? (A euphemistic way of saying that you actually get to keep some money to assist in the cost of raising children.)

Well, the clowns in DC have decided I don't get all of that credit.  Why...

The link is about a very bizarre and weird, and frightening tale.  About a divorce, where the mother (as usual) got custody of the couple's 3 daughters.  About a man, a sitting judge no less, tried 9 times to force visitation with them, and about a women that went off the deepend and locked up the 3 girls for 7 years in a squallid, mouse infested cesspool, with no outside contact with the world.

The tale is sad, and scary.  Sad?  Authorities say the oldest girl may never r...

Ok, for us guys, she was sweet eye candy (when she dropped the life saver).  She knew how to keep herself up, and became rich by making an old man's last year a very happy one.  But really people!  Front page?  The Photo spot?

Both Foxnews, and CNN (and I dont check out MSNBC as that is just a rag) have it in their lead spot!  Which is stupid!  She was a celeb!  Not an important person who cured something or changed something!

left or right, if you think ...

A few years ago, I noticed all these shops popping up.  They were advertising short term loans for the cash strapped.  Up to $500!  For that short term loan to tide you over to payday.  I did not think much of them, nor did I ever try to avail myself of them.  I knew the catch without going in to check on it.  They would charge a fee for a loan of a week or so.  And annualized, that fee was worse than a cash advance on a credit card.  How else could they d...

I will admit I don't watch the View.  For a couple of reasons.  I work during the day, and I cannot stand Rosie Odumbel.  But apparently a lot of people do.  It is apparently very popular in its time slot.

I do listen to talk Radio.  Glenn Beck and Rush mostly.  Why?  I can stream them on the Internet while I am working (which means I catch about 1/4 of the shows as I am working - but I do like background noise).  Of course the audience size of The View...

Is the title shocking?  Think about it.  When you think about it, the statement is a truism.  No one is saying that half of all children are stupid.  That half of all children are morons.  But the simple fact is that one takes the total sample, adds it up and divides by the number of the population.  That is an average.  And while one may argue that the average is not the median (the median is the true mid point of the population), with a sample size large enou...

Yvonne DeCarlo died, according to sources, of Natural causes today.  It seems all our childhood TV stars (and movie for that matter) are leaving us.  But when I read she was 84, it made me feel old!

Herman, Grandpa, and now Lily.  Mawell, Gilligan too.  I guess time stands for no one, even our childhood idols.

The headlines today blared: Massive deaths in another Terrorist Attack on the US.  The originator was Pat Robertson.  And CNN and Fox dutifully carried the news.  And the local idiot of a talking head is dedicating an hour or 2 to rant about "Who listens to him?".  Well for one, the idiot talking head.

For another a couple of Internet News Services.  For a third?  Anyone else you can think of?  Simply put, Pat Robertson has been a caricature for the last oh,...

In another (actually 2) examples of brain dead administrators implementing stupid rules with no thought behind the use of said rules, it appears that the age of sexual predators has dropped to 4 and 5 years old.  Not 14 or 15, four or five!

In Maryland, a young boy has to go through elementary school listed as a sexual predator.  His crime?  He pinched a girls fanny!  OK, I am not going ...

No, I am not a fan of The Donald.  Until the latest!  As I am just a voice in the wilderness so to speak, I can say a lot about Rosie O'Donnel, but who is going to listen to me?  But The Donald is a man who has made not one, but several fortunes.  And knows of what he speaks.  My Opinion of Rosie will be apparent soon, as this feud has exploded into the best E-Network news since the OJ Simpson trial!

"Rosie is a bully. I hit her between the eyes, she's worried ab...

Yep!  I am sure we have all seen the joke about the bumper sticker "Jesus is Love" and then the driver acting like a bitch from hell. The cop pulling her over as he figured the car was stolen, yada, yada, yada.

I have seen it so many times, it got tiresome.  Until today.  Today I was driving in the nasty West end.  basically gridlock from light to light.  I had to, so I just sat back and inched along.  Then a car with a bumper sticker that read "Coexist" with the...
