Illinois wants to make you Public
Published on March 3, 2011 By Dr Guy In Politics

The AG in Illinois wants to make you a target.  If you do not own a gun!  In a scary ruling on her part, the AG has told the Illinois State Police to release all the names of legal gun owners.  Which by default will also show who does not own a gun (or at least a legal one, and that would be the vast majority of the owners).  Her rationale is that it "may" reveal some who should not have a gun due to a complication.  But it will also make all who do not own a gun ripe targets for criminals!

The State Police so far is refusing to honor the request, and the article indicates it will probably go to court.  Which way will the court go?  Hard to say.  But I fail to see how publishing the list is in anyway a "right" of the citizens of Illinois.  Indeed, it seems to be an invasion of privacy, but then the only right to privacy that seems to be dear to liberals is abortion.

I am only glad I do not live in Illinois.  Whether I own a gun or not is not your business.  Or the criminal's either.

Doc:

I agree with you here but am a bit confused as to what good the release of this information is supposed to accomplish. Personally, I do not have a problem with people knowing I carry … but I smell nothing but malicious intent with the release of the listing. And that somehow the public is capable of doing anything about “an individual who may have become ineligible to carry” anyway … but look at the opening door for malevolent intent … public interest my eye. If the police are not capable of a remedy in such cases … what is the point of the list in the first place? Let the people who ARE responsible, do their jobs …

I am unsure of the intentions either, but I suspect this is another road of best intentions going to hell.  For the real losers will be those who do not have a gun!  Every criminal will look at who is NOT on the list.  So the real victims will  be the ones who WANT this done, and they of course will cry the loudest.

I also agree that I cannot see ho wperhaps finding a person who is NOT eligible will be any better.  Police already know both.  They may have missed some, but I doubt many legal carriers have been overlooked.

This is a rather disturbing piece of info.  It is the main reason that I am totally against gun registration.  We've been down this trail before, but this is a new wrinkle.

Big Fat Daddy
This is a rather disturbing piece of info.  It is the main reason that I am totally against gun registration.  We've been down this trail before, but this is a new wrinkle.

Gun registration is not bad in and of itself.  Unless used for these types of purposes.  Which inevitably it is.  It just boggles my mind that they still just do not get it.  They are fools who are condemned by their own stupidity to repeat the mistakes of the past due to a blind hatred of that which they do not have.
