And sometimes that is not bad.

China cannot be mistaken for an open society, or even a tolerant one when it comes to private ownership of guns.  So what's a killer to do?  Make do with a knife.  5 "oficials" were killed by one knife wielding (and that is just the party line) nut case.  One gun would have stopped him after 1, 2 at the most.

But Guns kill, so Guns are bad.  People dont kill, just Guns.  So take guns out of the equation, and no more killing!  Eden on earth!  The best of all worlds!  Paradise!

I guess in this case the nut job wanted to send a few to Shangra La sooner than god did.

But at least guns did not kill anybody.

Hey, China got it right. They thought guns were dangerous and so they got rid of them. Now no one can say it was the gun makers who are responsible.

You know, I have always questioned the whole idea of carrying a knife of a certain size to be illegal. I think if I wanted to, I could kill someone with the small knife on a swiss army knife. Hell, I bet the swiss army could do it.

Yep. Slice an artery, and the sucker is dead before he takes 10 steps.

There have been plenty of studies to show that things are safer when law abiding people have guns than when only the criminals have them (which no law is going to stop). I would rather get shot than stabbed to death any day! People will kill each other with knives, shovels, hammers, etc. If some fool is coming at me with a knife, I want to be able to pull and Indianna Jones and shoot him.

Here in Indonesia we keep machetes under our beds instead of guns. lol. I keep bamboo stick with a metal spearhead for any gang members trying to break into my house. But I do wish I had a gun. A lot of news of people's throats being cut in Indonesia.

Very true. In the end, it is the absense of guns that embrazen the criminals. Tech was and is a Gun Free Zone. Clinch Valley College, not far from there is not. A year or so earlier, a gunman went on a rampage at that college. He was stopped before the body count grew. By another student with a legal gun.

Here in the Swirling Epicenter we saw a great change happen a few years ago. The first week we lived here there were two carjackings and a home invasion within a mile or two of our house. There were drive-by shootings, gang shootouts and all manner of crimes happening around us. John Anderson was elected Sheriff and his first new act was the relaxing of requirements to obtain concealed weapons permits. The first month there was something like 3000 permits issued in the county. And almost overnight, the house raids, car jackings and drive bys came to a screeching halt. There were still a few random acts occasionally, but the drop off was dramatic and sudden. I understand that other counties have had similar results when carry permits were accessable to the public. There are other methods of home protection available, but nothing speaks louder than "Home Protected by Mossberg...or Smith and Wesson...or Ruger...or....."

For the most part, criminals are not morons. They are going to mug an old lady before they tackle a burly man. Or go into a house they know has no weapons before they try one that may be packing. Stupid criminals usually do not live to regret their stupidity.

Actually, the spear is in the house I'm currently at where guns are prohibited, but in my other house located in Trawas (somewhere in the mountains), we have a stock of single shot rifles after being broken into and robbed 2 times. Mom also hired military personnel from Jakarta 'cos we suspect that the local police were in on the whole thing. NO MORE BREAK INS! So, yea guns are the best when it comes to protecting your house!

Guns don't die, people do.  I hate guns but I think that the constitution makes it our right to have them so I won't infringe on others rights, I just won't have one in my house.  Unless you count bb guns and my youngest is lobbying for pellet guns oh and paint ball guns.  But you know...not a "real" gun.  Definately water guns, I bet if that chinese dude got hit with the freezing cold super soaker he would have stopped stabbing people.

So the other side of the coin, is how many more people than five would he have killed if he had a semi-automatic.  I think the body count would have went up considerably.  And if criminals can get guns even if they're illegal, why wasn't he packing anyway?
